Office & Front Desk

WCHM’s Office Volunteers work in a clerical and/or visitor services capacity. Volunteers help staff prepare mailings and flyers, greet visitors, and perform other tasks as they arise.

Collections & Curatorial Volunteers

WCHM’s Collections and Curatorial Volunteers play an important role in caring for and preserving the museum’s collection. They work closely with our staff to help rehouse and move artifacts, conduct research, and support preventative conservation efforts.

Their careful work helps ensure each item is protected and preserved for future generations. By helping maintain and organize our collections, these volunteers make it possible for us to share our region’s history and culture with the community.

Exhibits & Exhibit Fabrication Volunteers

WCHM’s Exhibits Volunteers help create engaging and meaningful experiences for our visitors. They assist with every stage of exhibit development, including design, research, installation, and deinstallation.

Our Exhibit Building Volunteers focus on the hands-on work of constructing exhibit structures and interactive elements. They assemble and build the physical pieces that make our exhibits both welcoming and immersive. Their efforts help bring our stories to life inside the museum.

Programs, Educational Outreach & Docents

WCHM’s Programs and Educational Outreach Volunteers support the planning and delivery of K–12, family, and public programs. They also assist at community outreach events, helping share information about the museum and its educational opportunities.

WCHM’s Docents lead K–12 school field trip tours. They receive training on our general tour and help research and suggest topics for our tour guidebook. Docents play a key role in creating engaging, educational experiences for students and teachers alike.

WCHM’s Beautification & Buildings & Grounds Volunteers assist in maintaining the museum’s interior and exterior. Their tasks may include landscaping, planting, weeding, painting, and general building maintenance, all of which contribute to keeping our museum and its surroundings inviting and beautiful.

Haunted Museum Boo Crew

WCHM’s Haunted Museum and Boo Crew Volunteers help decorate the museum, its grounds, and assist with our annual Haunted Museum event weekends. We offer a variety of fun roles, including decorators, haunters, and activity facilitators, all designed to enhance the event experience.

Signature Exhibit

WCHM’s Signature Exhibit Volunteers work to help the museum install, develop, and research artifacts for our annual Signature Exhibit. Signature Program volunteers help set up and tear down for the event.

**Other specialized Volunteer opportunity examples include video/photography of programs, events, exhibits, historical first-person interpretation, demonstrations of historical activities etc.
