Haunted Museum 2021
Tag Line: A not-too-scary Halloween experience by appointment
When: October 15, 16, 22 and 23 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm
Where: Wayne County Historical Museum 1150 N. A St. Richmond, IN
We have accessible parking in the rear parking lot located at S. 11th Street and B street. The Museum building is accessible via ramp located on the East side of the building. Please let us know at least 24 hours prior to your visit if additional accommodations are necessary.
Admission: $7 adults, $4 for kids 6-17, Age 5 and under FREE, Members FREE
Description: It’s time for our 12th Annual Haunted Museum
Background: Haunted Museum will work two ways this year!
- From October 8th -October 31st 9:30 – 4:00 pm Monday-Friday and 12-4 Saturday, visitors can enjoy the museum decorated for Halloween and children will receive a prepackaged bag of treats and take-along activities at the end of their visit! Masks are required for entry!
- October 16th, 17th, 22nd and 23rd from 6:00 – 9:00 pm will be our traditional Haunted Museum evenings. Costumes are encouraged! Visitors must make an appointment prior to arrival. Call us to reserve your time at 765-962-5756! We will have appointment times every 15 minutes. Due to Health Department directives, we can only accommodate 25 visitors per appointment time. Visitors will receive a prepackaged bag of treats and take-along activities at the end of their visit! ***Masks for everyone 8 years and up are required for entry.

Haunted History Ghost Walks

Description: YOUR WCHM is hosting four nights of Spooktacular fun! Each group will have expert paranormal investigators that will tell you about different ghostly encounters that they, or others have experienced in houses and buildings within the Depot and Starr Historic District! Please call or come to the museum to pay for tickets. Please be aware that we will be walking so wear clothes that you can walk in! Masks are required inside the museum, and we ask that our gests social distance during the event.
Background: From cemeteries to parks and everything in between, our Haunted History Tours will give visitors a look into the paranormal realms of Wayne County. Guests will learn about some of the Wayne County Historical Museum’s spookiest residents, as well as some that share the neighborhood with us!

Description: Tales from the Departed kicks off on Saturday, October 2 from 1:00 to 4:00. Richmond’s history is endlessly interesting, and visitors to the cemetery on that day can meet some of the people who helped make that history. Mayors, soldiers, businessmen and more will be on hand to tell their stories and engage with participants. Come out and enjoy a walk around a beautiful cemetery and meet some interesting personalities from Richmond’s past.
Background: Since 2007, the Wayne County Historical Museum has enchanted audiences of all ages with our historical walking tour of Earlham Cemetery. This year we will have several characters from Wayne County’s historical past for visitors to meet!
This year’s lineup includes:
John F. Miller – Creator of Glen Miller Park
Cornelius Ratliff — Prominent early Quaker
Mary Birdsall — Early Wayne County women’s suffragist
Dr. Isaac Teague — 19th century physician who peddled miracle cures
Mrs. Wm Wilson — Wife of Civil War veteran
Thomas Bennett — Civil War colonel and frequent Richmond mayor
Dr. William Zimmerman – Frequent Richmond Mayor with a colorful past

2021 Virtual Summer Camps
Destination History Camp will transport campers back in time to when the First People of Indiana inhabited Wayne County. Campers will learn about Pioneer Life, the Civil War and the Underground Railroad, the Victorian Age, and the Roaring 20’s! Inventors and innovators from Wayne County are showcased and campers will learn about World War II and how Wayne County contributed to the war effort. Registration Deadline is Friday July 2.
*Campers will receive a Zoom link to join the camp each day. Registration and payment are required prior to receiving the Camp in a Box kits and Zoom link.

Tales from the Departed 2020 The Suffrage Edition
This year’s Virtual Tales from the Departed highlights the Suffrage Movement and the fight for the women’s right to vote in Wayne County. Wayne County played an important role as the place that sparked the movement in Indiana. Our Suffragists extended their reach, and made their mark on the national movement. Lighting the Spark & Raising A Ruckus: The Suffrage Movement in Wayne County
Join Wayne County Women’s Suffrage Centennial Task Force for a virtual celebration of Wayne County, Indiana’s critical role in the long struggle for women to secure the right to vote. Wayne County’s bold leadership in winning women the right to vote was evident when Wayne County established the first Indiana Women’s Rights Convention, one of the earliest in the country, in Dublin, IN in 1851 and continued until suffrage ratification in 1920. Courageous women and men throughout Wayne County never gave up the fight to win women their essential right to vote. During this 2-part virtual series, meet two prominent suffragists, Dr. Mary F Thomas, Oliver P Morton, Esther Griffin White and George Washington Julian and more as they share details about what transpired in Wayne County that helped spark the women’s right to vote movement within Indiana and across the nation.
